Contributor's Guidelines:
Apollo's Lyre welcomes submissions from experienced and/or new writers.
We are looking for:
- Articles pertaining to the business of writing. We
occassionally run serialized articles pertaining to the writing field. Please query
first if you would like to submit a serialized article.
- Tips & Techniques on the craft of writing
- Fiction stories (no erotica, please.)
Keep crude language confined to the context of the story/character, and keep it to the minimum amount possible --
no vulgarity just for vulgarity's sake.
- Creative non-fiction. NO first person narratives in this category, please.
- Flash Fiction: We accept literary, speculative and genre flash fiction.
- Micro-fiction consists of 100 to 200 words
- Flash fiction consists of 201 to 1,000 words
- Reviews of books

Poetry
We want informative articles that will teach writers
how to enhance
and increase their writing skills.
Articles are to be between 300 - 1,800 words.
Fiction
stories and book reviews should be
between 300 - 2000 words.
Please adhere
to these guidelines.
We are also looking for longer fiction stories, up to 12,000
words, to showcase in serialized format (Serial Ink). These longer pieces will be viewed online and
via a special newsletter that will showcase the story in installments, once a month.
You may submit
up to 5 poems with a reasonable amount of verses.
By submitting to Apollo's Lyre, you agree to give us one-time rights for 90 days. Your work will then be archived
for an additional 270 days. You retain ownership of your article and may post it elsewhere.
If your submission is selected for publication, it may be considered for inclusion in our Annual Best of Apollo's
Lyre anthology. You will be contacted for permission to use your work should your piece be selected for inclusion.
By submitting your article, you agree that we reserve the right to edit all article submissions for spelling
and grammar, and to make minor revisions if necessary. Upon submission, you confirm that it is your work and that you
are the legal copyright holder of the submitted work. We will not be held responsible for any and all copyright disputes or
actions which may result because of copyright infringement issues.
To
submit, send your article in the body of the email. No attachments. Please put 'Submission' followed by the catagory
your are submitting for, in the subject line. For example: 'Submission Poetry' or 'Submission Writing Article'.
In
your email, include: * the word count
*
title of the work,
*
your full name and email address.
In addition, include a short author bio of 40 words or less to be included
with your published work. You may also include a single link to your website, or a website of interest to you.
Apollo's Lyre is a non-paying
market at the moment. Please proofread your material for errors and submit a professional
copy. We will not accept works that include pornography or erotica, child abuse, rape, extreme gore, gratuitous violence,
or degrading actions. In other words, content for which the sole intent is prurient entertainment, will be
rejected. There are plenty of sites out there that cater to this sort of writing. We are not one of them.
Cut and paste your submission into the body of
the email.
Single space and use readable fonts like Times Roman or Courier. All attachments
will be deleted unread.
In the case of Serial Ink submissions, a file attachment may be used as long as you have contacted
the editor first. Serial Ink files must be in either RTF or Word format.
The
standard response time is six weeks after confirmation of receipt. Please do not query about the status of your submission
until this amount of time has passed. You will be notified that we have received your submission via email within a resonable
amount of time (usually a day or two). If several days have gone by and you have not received notification of receipt,
please do query us. Emails can sometimes be lost in transmission or blocked by anti-spam programs.
